while I wait...

While I wait for my permits in the mail (sometimes it feels I'll still be sitting here waiting when I'm old and gray...) I'm posting some pics I took in Seattle at Pike Place Market the other week.
It was out first time there and we loved it!!! So colorful and lively. That being said, I don't think we'll go on a Sunday at noon again. :-)

permits, permits, permits....

I'm getting a little irritated with all the permits and licensed I need up here to run my business. It seems around every corner a new application for something else is waiting for me. (needless to say I need to include a check 90% of the time.)
I need to apply for a license in every. single. city I conduct business in (as in I go to a park outside my city limits for a photo session). AND FILE TAXES THERE annually! WHAT? So now I've decided to offer service in DuPont, Lacey and Tacoma for now. And see how it goes.
Meaning I'm gonna file Taxes 4 times for one and the same business.
And did I mention I hate paperwork?

Washington

Hello everyone! I'm still alive, just thought I'd mention it :-)
We are still settling in here in Washington. It's very different from Texas but we like it so far.
The weather is... interesting. to say the least!
We got pretty lucky the first few weeks but man! then the rain started! hahaha
I'm still not quite ready to work. I renewed / upgraded all my equipment! My new camera is a Nikon D700 which I'm loving so far!!!



I have two great lenses to go with it as of right now. I also have a photo studio at our new house. I'm waiting on the lights to be delivered and on an idea where to put my daughter's toys. she kind of chose the photo room as her playroom :-) Anyway, the backdrops are already up and ready to go. Now I just need to get my act together, clean up that room and get a babysitter for the kid... Phew!

This was officially my last photo shoot in Austin... kind of bittersweet. I'm glad I got to take pictures of my dear friend Haley and her beautiful family once more but sad I won't be there to do so in the (near) future. It was a beautiful morning, we got really lucky with the weather! One day later we would have been fried out there, I think we managed to meet on the last warm (not hot!) day. 8am and 84F with a slight breeze and blue skies - really can't complain :-)

last photo shoot

The day is almost here... my last photo shoot for a long time (or ever?) in Austin will be this Saturday morning.
I'm sad because I feel I now know lot of great places and not only that but also at what exact time the light will be great where. It will be a lot of work achieving the same thing in Washington. Even though I guess due to all the rain up there it will mostly be a matter of luck doing outdoor pictures. So I have decided to start offering studio pictures as well. I have taken classes here in Austin over the last few months and I'm definitely feeling ready to go! Now we only have to find a house that offers a nice little studio space, maybe a den.

I also wanted to thank everyone here in Austin for letting me take their pictures and I truly hope we'll be back here in a few years so I can take pictures of all those babies on their first day of school! Time will fly! :-)
